What age should my child first see an orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children first see an orthodontist by age 7. At this age, the orthodontist can evaluate the child’s developing teeth and bite, allowing them to identify potential issues early while the child is still growing. Early consultation allows for timely intervention of growth and tooth eruption, which can simplify or shorten treatment later on. While many children won’t need treatment right away, early monitoring helps guide the best time for orthodontic care. Regular check-ups ensure optimal growth and development of the teeth and jaws.
Do I need a referral from my dentist to set up an orthodontic consultation at Baptist Orthodontics?
No. You may call, email, or schedule your exam online at any time! We will contact your dentist to verify any pending dental work that needs to be done before we start your orthodontic treatment.
Are you in-network with my insurance?
Orthodontic benefits work differently from other medical benefits. We don’t need to be in-network with your insurance provider for them to pay your benefits! Please provide us with your insurance information before your exam, so we can let you know how much they should cover during your consultation.
I know that I have orthodontic insurance. Will they cover the full cost of treatment?
Most insurances pay between $1000 and $3000, depending on your level of coverage. You can often obtain these quotes online or by contacting your insurance carrier. As a courtesy, we will also gather this information and review it with you during your consultation.
Do you accept Medicaid?
No, we do not accept Medicaid insurance. However, at Baptist Orthodontics, our goal is to make orthodontic care accessible to everyone. If you bring documentation showing that you are on state-assisted dental plans, we will apply an in-office discount to reduce the cost of your treatment! We also offer flexible, interest-free payment plans that will be customized to you!
How much does orthodontic treatment cost?
The cost of orthodontic treatment varies widely depending on factors such as treatment complexity, duration, and modality. To get an accurate, personalized quote, it’s best to take advantage of our complimentary exam. Generally, Phase I treatment (early intervention for very young children) ranges $3000 to $4500, while comprehensive treatment (for preteens through adults) typically costs between $4800 and $6800, depending on complexity and modality of treatment. Additionally, there are smaller plans available for those who only require minor adjustments (moving 1 or 2 teeth), and larger plans for those requiring orthognathic surgery.
Do you offer Invisalign?
While we offer treatment with aligners, we do not use the Invisalign brand. To avoid any confusion, we refer to them as “clear aligners” and use reputable companies like SureSmile. This choice helps us reduce costs for our patients, gives the doctor more control over tooth movements, and allows for much faster turnaround times, enabling you to start your treatment within two weeks of your consultation!
I need a retainer, but I’m not your patient. Can I do that here?
Yes! Retainers are essential for maintaining a good orthodontic result, and we want to ensure everyone has one. If you are not an active patient of ours, there will be a small office visit fee added to the cost of your new retainer. Additionally, bonded retainers (wires glued behind the teeth) will incur an extra fee because our doctors need to take x-rays and evaluate the health and condition of your teeth and bone prior to placement, ensuring your safety.
Do you offer a payment plan?
Absolutely! We offer a fantastic 0% in-house payment plan, allowing you to spread out your payments over the course of your treatment. We also partner with CareCredit for added flexibility. Our treatment coordinator will work with you to create a customized payment plan that fits your desired down payment and monthly budget!
Am I too old for braces?
Patients are never too old for braces! In fact, we have many patients that are in their 70’s and older undergoing active treatment with braces or aligners. Orthodontic treatment can be effective at any age if the teeth and gums are healthy. We will always check with your dentist and/or periodontist to confirm that your periodontal health is stable before starting treatment. Often, we will pursue treatment at a slower rate if there is a history of bone loss to maintain the safety of the teeth, but modern techniques have made treatment more efficient and discreet than ever before!
Why choose an orthodontist for your braces or aligner treatment?
Orthodontists are general dentists who have undergone an additional 2-3 years of full-time training to specialize in jaw alignment and safe tooth movement. Dr. Baptist, for example, holds a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics in addition to her Doctorate in Dentistry. During this advanced training, orthodontists enhance their skills and stay updated on the latest research and developments in the field.
Orthodontists offer a broader range of treatment options, including advanced techniques and technologies. Since they focus solely on tooth alignment, orthodontists have extensive experience compared to general dentists who handle fewer orthodontic cases. This specialization enables orthodontists to provide precise diagnoses and customized treatment plans, making them better suited for complex cases. Their expertise often results in more optimal and stable long-term outcomes, with effective retention strategies to maintain alignment. Additionally, orthodontists collaborate with other dental and medical professionals for comprehensive care. This specialization ensures the highest standard of treatment tailored to each patient’s specific needs.
Do you do fillings, cleanings, or extractions at Baptist Orthodontics?
No. We specialize in orthodontic braces, aligners, and retainers to straighten the teeth. Any other type of dental work will need to be done by a general dentist or other dental specialists.
I only need a referral for an extraction. Can you do that?
To receive an extraction referral from Baptist Orthodontics, you must be an ongoing patient (signed contract for treatment or enrolled in our Observation Program). The extraction must be necessary to aid in tooth eruption or alignment. All other extraction requests should be prescribed by your general dentist or another dental specialist.
